Soeloeh Merdeka

Soeloeh Merdeka, an imprint of Kawah Buku established in 2019, focuses on broad genres, including pop and semi-scholarly works. The imprint’s name was inspired by a newspaper published and circulated in Medan, Indonesia around 1940, which was influential during the East Sumatra Social Revolution. ‘Soeloeh’ is equivalent to Suluh (familiar in Malaya). For this, we pay homage to C.F. van Ophuijsen, for he was the first to standardize Malay spelling in Indonesia through his Maleische Spraakkunst in 1910.
